On February 20, 2013 I jumped out of bed and rushed to the bathroom. “Grant…” I said anxiously, “I think my water just broke…”
…this was the day.
Grant and I opted not to find out the sex of our baby when we found out we were finally pregnant. What was nine more months when we had already been waiting two years (yes, it look THAT long) to find out our pumpkin was on the way.
CHECK IT OUT. NUTSHELL VERSION. This version is from GRANT'S PERSPECTIVE, mind you.
3:00AM Lyndsey woke me from a dead sleep…”Babe! Come here!”
3:05AM I searched frantically on WebMD for a diagnosis.
3:10AM We called the hospital and confirmed the diagnosis: It’s time to have this baby.
3:20AM Headed toward the front door to leave for the hospital only to hear Lyndsey scream, “Wait! I need to straighten my hair! I can’t bring a child into this world looking like this!” …wow
3:30AM As Lyndsey stepped out the car to head toward the hospital entrance, BOOM, the rest of her water broke and the contractions kicked in. Lyndsey, in pain. Me, panic.
3:45AM In the hospital room getting prepped. Lyndsey, working through contractions. Me, working through contractions. (Just kidding babe! I know yours were worse!)
4:30AM Family begins to trickle into the hospital room while Lynds is in labor.
6:00AM Option for epidural is presented. Lyndsey: "Let's do it!" Moments later Lyndsey says, "Oh wow. I feel goooooood now." Thank you, modern medicine.
7:00AM Me: "Lyndsey! You're having a REALLY BIG contraction right now!" Lyndsey: "I am!?! Wow, I feel great."
10:00AM "Grant, go get the nurse…my epidural wearing off…" Me: "Uh…ok." Nurse comes into check…nope…definitely not ready for another shot of the good stuff…contractions are just that intense…oh man.
10:45AM Sisters from Dallas made it in time to love Lyndsey's neck…at this point, the tears start flowing…pain, emotion, relief, excitement...
11:00AM "Grant," Lyndsey said to me while pulling my arm, “the baby is coming!!” I rush out of the room to retrieve the nurse and explain to her what Lyndsey said, "Oh, honey, most first time mommies feel that sensation and think it's the baby, but it's probably just another bad contraction…let's go check."
11:02AM Nurse comes in to humor Lyndsey, checks dilation, ten centimeters, baby is crowning, calls the doctor immediately. Time to push!!
11:10AM Doctor scrubs in. Baby’s head continues to crown before doctor even sits down.
11:20AM Baby’s head is out. Two small pushes…”It’s a beautiful baby GIRL!” BEST MOMENT EVER. LIFE CHANGED.
Meet the girl who stole our hearts, Ellie Rhyan Moore. 8 pounds, 10 ounces, 20.5 inches long. JUST PERFECT.
